Marcus Finch

I am a painter, ceramicist and experienced tutor, honoured to be President of the Downland Art Society and provide online teaching, live workshops and informative demonstrations across Sussex and beyond in a variety of media and subjects.
The creation of atmosphere is what I strive for in my paintings and the surface images and textures of my three dimensional pieces. The elements interacting with the land or sea, dynamic cloudscapes creating a play of light and even the wind direction are things I want to convey to the observer from my original experience of a place.
As a teacher I am excited to share my techniques in the wide variety of media that I have worked with covering many styles in the process although I do not teach ceramics but reserve that discipline for my own practice. I specialise in “Raku” technique which allows me interaction with the glaze surfaces during firing.
